Secure

Microsoft 365 is at the heart of how many businesses work: email, documents, meetings… It is also a prime target for attackers, because a single compromised account can open access to years of conversations and documents. The good news: five simple measures greatly reduce the risks.

1. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)

A password alone is no longer enough. Multi-factor authentication requires a second proof of identity, such as a confirmation on a smartphone, and blocks the vast majority of account takeover attempts. It is the single most effective measure, and it should apply to every user, starting with leadership.

2. Protect administrator accounts

Limit the number of administrators, use dedicated admin accounts (not everyday accounts) and grant only the permissions that are strictly necessary. A compromised admin account exposes your entire environment.

3. Disable legacy authentication protocols

Legacy email protocols do not support multi-factor authentication. Attackers regularly use them to get around your protections: disable them as soon as your applications allow it.

4. Back up your data

Microsoft guarantees the availability of the service, but protecting your data against accidental deletion, departing employees or ransomware remains your responsibility. An independent backup of your mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams is essential.

5. Train your users

Phishing remains the most common way in. Regular awareness sessions and phishing simulations build the right reflexes: check the sender, be wary of urgency, report rather than click.

Where to start?

If you do only one thing this week: turn on multi-factor authentication for all your accounts. For the rest, our teams can carry out a security review of your Microsoft 365 environment and give you a clear, prioritized action plan.
